Welcome to clusterware.com! What is clusterware?
Clusterware is any software that allows groups (“clusters”) of networked computers to operate or be controlled as if they are one. Just like middleware is software that sits between (in the “middle” of) two applications, clusterware sits between two or more nodes in a group of computers.
This site contains resources related to clusterware that I’ve encountered since the mid-1990s,
when I first took an active interest in this software field through my academic studies in economics and finance. By harnessing the power of groups of computers, clusterware allows
one to tackle “hard” problems that a single computer alone would take too long to solve. One of the most famous examples of clusterware in use to solve a hard scientific problem is the SETI Project. To have the broadest possible interest, resources that this site links to shall focus on open
source software, free software, or academic research papers and applications. Feel free to contact me if you are aware of other resources that can be added to this site, or have
suggestions on improving the site. I’m particularly interested in financial and scientific examples, but anything that would help others learn about clusterware technologies would also be useful. |
